Details make perfection… Ultrasound Imaging Biomarkers of Rheumatic Diseases
Thursday - March 18th 2021 at 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM CET
COURTESY OF:
Walter GRASSI
Professor of Rheumatology and Director of the Postgraduate School in Rheumatology at the Università Politecnica delle Marche and Chief of the Rheumatology Clinic at the Jesi Medical Center, Ancona, Italy.
The main purpose of this presentation is to focus attention on the potential of ultrasound to show the presence of otherwise undetectable details that can play a key diagnostic role. The sensitivity of sonography is impressive: it is so high that it is possible to recognize minimal lesions such as bone erosions of less than 0.1 mm in diameter. Even if "sensitivity" and "details" are bad words for epidemiologists, as a clinical rheumatologist I like to remember this wonderful statement by Leonardo Da Vinci: "Details make perfection".
Ultrasound for management of GCA, PMR and Large vessel vasculitis
Thursday - April 8th at 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM CEST
COURTESY OF:
Bhaskar DASGUPTA
Consultant Rheumatologist Mid & South Essex NHS Foundation Trust Southend University Hospital MSK Specialty Lead North Thames Clinical Research Network Honorary Professor, University of Essex Honorary Professor, Queen Mary University London.
The webinar will consist of a live demonstration of scanning and settings for temporal and axillary arteries in GCA patients. There will be guidance on calculating Southend ultrasound Halo Score for assessment of extent and severity of disease and monitoring of GCA on therapy. There will be Q&A session on setting up and running an ultrasound driven fast track GCA clinic.
Sonography and rheumatoid arthritis
Wednesday - April 28th at 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM CEST
COURTESY OF:
Philippe GAUDIN
Professor of Centre Hospitalier Universitaire of Grenoble, France. Chief of Rheumatology Department at CHU (centre hospitalier universitaire) of Grenoble Hôpital Sud, Grenoble, France.
Ultrasonography (US) is a powerful and useful tool for the management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The first part of this webinar is about, after scanning standardisations, the basic lesions to look for: synovitis, tenosynovitis, erosions, where and when to look for them. Should we use US for diagnosis, disease follow up or/and remission? In the second part, we will consider the literature data to locate the interest of the US examination during the remission. Should we use US to reduce or stop treatment? Are there any data on the risk of relapse? To finish with, we will discuss the French recommendations, which should be published soon, concerning the use of US in RA.
Ultrasound of enthesitis in inflammatory rheumatic diseases
Thursday - May 20th at 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM CEST
COURTESY OF:
Marina BACKHAUS
Professor of Rheumatology and Imaging Techniques and Chief of the Department of Internal Medicine - Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at the Park-Klinik Weissensee, Berlin Germany, an academic hospital of the Charité University.
Enthesitis is a common symptom of patients with spondyloarthritis especially with psoriatic arthritis. The clinical detection is most difficult in some cases. An important differential diagnosis is fibromyalgia. This lesson presents the ultrasound definition of enthesitis. Typical examples of enthesitis in inflammatory rheumatic disease were shown.
Salivary gland ultrasonography in primary Sjögren’s syndrome
Tuesday - June 29th at 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM CEST
COURTESY OF:
Alja STEL
MD Rheumatologist at UMCG - University Medical Center Groningen, Department of Rheumatology and clinical Immunology, Groningen, Netherlands.
Sjögren syndrome (SjS) is a systemic autoimmune disease that primarily affects the exocrine glands (mainly the salivary and lacrimal glands) and results in the severe dryness of mucosal surfaces, principally in the mouth and eyes. This disease predominantly affects middle-aged women, but can also be observed in children, men and the elderly.

The hydrochemical neurolysis of entrapment neuropathies, a new therapeutic procedure
Tuesday - July 20th at 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM CEST
COURTESY OF:
Ahmed OULD HENNIA
Head of Interventional Rheumatology Unit at hospital of Chartres, Chartres, France. International MSK ultrasound trainer.
The interest of this audio visual communication (and live demo) is to show you how you can, with a needle and a good ultrasound machine, treat effectively the most of the entrapment neuropathies and in many cases, you avoid surgery.
