Interview to Dr. Tom Stinner

Tom Stinner, DVM, Specializes in lameness, sports medicine, and diagnostic imaging.

Southern Equine Service is located in the heart of South Carolina horse country and offers a broad range of ambulatory and in-hospital services to serve the needs of a diverse equine clientele.

Q: Why did you add the O-scan Equine MRI to your service offerings?

Tom: We wanted to be able to provide critical information to our clients that was only possible with MRI. The O-scan offered the image quality we were looking for at a reasonable price for a private practice.

Q. What benefits does the O-scan Equine bring to your practice?

Tom: The O-scan allows us to diagnose distal limb pathologies accurately. The proper diagnosis is essential to developing the right treatment plan and rehab protocol to establish a valid prognosis. This can all be accomplished on-site with minimal delay.

Q. What impact do you believe O-scan Equine has on patient care?

Tom: The O-scan allows us to determine the pertinent pathology and accurately treat it. We can take the guesswork out of the equation and get right to what the patient needs. We can also determine how long the injury will likely take to recover. Thus, we can significantly reduce the chance of re-injury by returning the patient to work too soon.

Q: Is your practice a referral site for other clinics without MRI?

Tom: Southern Equine Service provides referral imaging for many practices in SC, NC, and Georgia. We have formed good relationships with veterinarians who feel the same need for precise diagnostics that drove us to acquire the O-scan.

Q: How does the O-scan Equine set you apart from your competitors?

Tom: The O-scan gives us insight into anatomical regions many veterinarians are forced to speculate on. We can determine the problem and point it out to a client on the image. They can then understand the situation more clearly. We can provide the best information to the client and have the best chance for a successful outcome for the patient.
